Make: Kidde Graviner
Type: Mark 6
Item: Oil Mist Detector
The Graviner Mark 6 retains the long-established differential measuring system, enabling high sensitivity while maintaining maximum false alarm rejection. It uses optical sensing based on light scatter instead of obscuration, allowing for the use of very small detectors. These detectors are rugged and designed to be engine-mounted using standard oil mist detector ports, with each having its means of sample acquisition, eliminating the need for sample pipes. Multiple internal light sources ensure that a single failure will not cause the loss of a detector. The modular construction allows for a faulty detector to be replaced in a matter of minutes.
Oil mist detectors are integral to critical safety systems designed to detect conditions that could lead to crankcase explosions on large diesel engines. They are typically installed in harsh operating conditions, particularly concerning temperature and vibration, and are expected to provide continuous service over extended periods.
